Linken Leader Demands Ban on Winter Energy Caps, Price Ceiling, and Urgent Utility Bill Relief

Ines Schwerdtner, the head of The Left party, has called for an immediate ban on energy cutoffs for private households. Speaking to the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung,” she stressed that restrictions on gas and electricity must be prohibited, particularly during the winter months, so that people are not forced to endure cold conditions.

Schwerdtner also demanded that a price cap be placed on basic gas and electricity supplies and urged the government to rapidly implement the promised reduction in electricity taxes for all households.

The party leader accused the federal government of steering the country toward a genuine price explosion concerning gas prices, noting that this situation was entirely predictable. For pensioners on small incomes or families constantly struggling financially, she stated, this represents a major disaster.

Adding to her criticism, she leveled sharp remarks against Federal Minister for Economic Affairs, Katherina Reiche (CDU). Schwerdtner asserted that Reiche failed to take timely action against empty gas storage, basing her actions instead on an unquestioning reliance on the free market.
