The German Football Association (DFB) has decided to bring back standing-room tickets for international matches involving the men’s and women’s senior national teams, as well as the U21 squad. The DFB announced this decision on Tuesday. Standing ticket options will be available once again for Germany’s upcoming Nations League fixtures: against Greece on September 27th in Augsburg, and against Serbia on October 1st in Munich. This marks the first time these tickets will be offered in over 25 years.
According to the DFB, the reintroduction of standing areas is intended to convey “a signal about the importance of fans and fan culture” during international games. They note that standing sections have historically been a defining feature of German football, and this measure is hoped to foster the development of a “lively and diverse fan culture” surrounding the national teams.
DFB President Bernd Neuendorf stated that “we know from the dialogue with our fans how strong the desire for standing tickets at international matches is.” He added that in recent years, they have actively advocated within UEFA for the reintroduction of standing areas for international fixtures and tournaments. The goal is to further contribute to the positive evolution of the atmosphere at national matches. Neuendorf concluded by mentioning that the move also allows them to “create another more affordable option for our fans.”
