German striker Karim Adeyemi is leaving Borussia Dortmund and has immediately transferred to FC Barcelona, a decision the club announced on Thursday. The attacking player, whose contract would have expired next summer, had reportedly expressed his desire to move to the BVB management.
Lars Ricken, BVB’s Sporting Director, acknowledged Adeyemi’s value, stating he had been an important part of the team over the past four years. Ricken added that despite having reached the Champions League final this summer, both Adeyemi and the club have agreed they wish to pursue different paths moving forward.
Adeyemi first joined Dortmund at the beginning of the 2022/23 season. During his time with the club, he featured 98 times in the Bundesliga, scoring 23 goals. He also played 37 matches in the UEFA Champions League, netting twelve goals, and made six appearances in the DFB Pokal (one goal). Additionally, he played five games in the Club World Cup. The winger played a key role in the team that went on to reach the Champions League final in the 2023/24 season.
