Peter Hermann, a former assistant coach for FC Bayern Munich, has died at the age of 74. The club announced this on Saturday evening.
Hermann was noted for his presence at the club during significant periods. He served as an assistant coach to then-head coach Jupp Heynckes in 2013, the year Bayern won its first Triple title. FCB President Herbert Hainer expressed deep condolences, stating, “Our deepest sympathy goes out to the family, relatives, and all the companions of Peter Hermann. He worked under Dettmar Cramer and later supported coaching greats such as Jupp Heynckes, Dragoslav Stepanovic, and Berti Vogts with his skill and grounded approach.” Hainer added that “Football is sustained not least by personalities like Peter Hermann, who may not always be in the spotlight but ensure everything shines. The historic 2013 treble is also linked to his name.”
Throughout his career as an assistant coach with the club, Hermann contributed to FC Bayern winning one Champions League title, three German championships, two DFB-Pokal cups, and two German Supercups. He returned to FC Bayern for a second spell in October 2017 under Heynckes and remained with the team even after Heynckes departed in the summer of 2018. Following that, he served as an assistant coach for one year under Niko Kovac. Most recently, Hermann coached at Borussia Dortmund until the end of 2022, working under Edin Terzic.
