A drone sighting on Wednesday evening caused a temporary closure of the airspace over Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER). Airport spokespersons informed “Bild” that the drone was observed around 8:00 PM near the North Runway. Consequently, the airspace was closed at 8:20 PM. For a minimum of 45 minutes, no flights were permitted to take off or land. Several flights had to be rerouted to Dresden, leading to significant delays. The airspace closure was lifted at 9:05 PM, allowing flight operations to resume, though with continuing delays. Currently, the precise reason for the drone sighting and the identity of the pilot remain unclear.
