Katherina Reiche, the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs of the CDU, will not be attending the Government’s Open Day. According to reports from the “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland,” a spokeswoman stated that Reiche is unable to be present due to prior scheduling commitments. Furthermore, analyses of program schedules and inquiries directed at various ministries indicate that she is the only member of Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s cabinet who will not participate in the two-day event.
Despite the Minister’s absence, the Ministry of Economic Affairs will be open to the public on both days, offering insights into the department’s work. Several colleagues from specialized departments, as well as three parliamentary state secretaries, will be available for conversations and to answer questions. While the ministry confirmed these arrangements, it did not specify the exact commitment that is preventing the Minister from attending.
Meanwhile, Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD) will be participating in the 2nd National Veterans’ Day, which runs parallel to and supplements the Open Day celebration around the Reichstag building with a large public festival on Sunday.
The ministry’s activities will include public events. On Saturday, State Secretary Stefan Rouenhoff is scheduled to participate in the talk “Anstoß Deutschland: How German Entrepreneurs Advance the Country.” On Sunday, State Secretary Gitta Connemann (CDU) will take part in a stage talk titled, “Your Path to Success.”
