The Minister-President of Saxony-Anhalt, Sven Schulze (CDU), plans to investigate the possibility of revoking dual citizenship from individuals identified as threats or terrorists. Speaking to the news portal T-Online, Schulze stated, “This should not be an issue for a single party. It must be thoroughly examined whether we can strip them of their German passport and deport them.”
Schulze also explained that he meets regularly with survivors and relatives of victims from the attack on the Magdeburg Christmas Market. He emphasized, “Survivors of such acts and their families can never live the same way again. I have a clear opinion on this and will continue to defend it in the future.”
The CDU politician acknowledged a previous controversy where he strongly opposed the presence of a specific perpetrator of the Berlin CSD attack in Germany. He initially stated his desire for such individuals not to live in the country. However, he later corrected himself, saying, “I was not completely informed and assumed he actually held dual citizenship. Otherwise, I would not have made such a statement.”
Parts of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party also advocate for stripping terrorists and threats of German citizenship and demanding their deportation. However, a comprehensive report by the Society for Civil Rights, which analyzed potential prohibitions against the party, categorized this demand as a violation of human dignity and the democratic principle, marking it as a component of the theory against the party’s constitutionality.
