Following the deadly flash floods in Nepal, which have resulted in at least several dozen deaths and hundreds of missing persons, the Nepalese Tourism Authority announced on Thursday that at least eight German citizens are currently unaccounted for.
According to an official list provided by local authorities, the total number of missing people in Nepal stands at 644, of whom 127 are locals. The largest group of missing foreigners comes from the neighboring country of India, with 178 people unaccounted for. This is followed by citizens from the United States (65 missing) and Ukraine (53 missing). Other nationalities represented among the missing include Malaysia (51), Australia (35), Great Britain (33), and Canada (25).
The images accompanying the report showed flash floods tearing away or severely damaging buildings, bridges, and roads. Not all of the footage, however, was directly verifiable as authentic.
