Following the arrival of tens of thousands of migrants in Ceuta, the EU Interior Ministers affirmed their solidarity with Spain. This was announced by the European Union’s Commissioner for Interior and Migration, Magnus Brunner (EVP), on Tuesday after he met with the ministers.
Brunner stated that the situation could be brought back under control, noting that this success was not accidental, but rather the result of joint action. He assured that Spain and its population could depend on the Commission’s ongoing support and the strength of the Union.
The EU Commission has offered Spain both financial and operational assistance. Specifically, Brunner highlighted the provision of immediate financial aid intended to strengthen border protection in Ceuta. Currently, Frontex is already present in Ceuta and prepared to increase its efforts. Furthermore, he confirmed that other agencies, including Europol and the EU Asylum Agency, are standing by to provide support to Spain.
