European Foreign Ministers have agreed to a comprehensive new package of sanctions against Russia. The EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, announced on Monday that this plan was adopted during a meeting in Luxembourg. The measures are set to target nearly 1,600 individuals, companies, and other organizations, focusing specifically on Russia’s military-industrial complex.
Kallas stated that this represents the largest expansion of the sanctions list since the start of the war in Ukraine. She emphasized that the continent is demonstrating a “united front” through this action. More than half of the listed entities are linked to the production chain for ballistic missiles. The High Representative added that the sanctions will make it substantially harder, slower, and more expensive for Russia to produce the weapons used to kill Ukrainians.
