A man has been convicted of murder in the fatal attack on a bailiff in Saarland, receiving a sentence of ten years in prison. The Regional Court in Saarbrücken found the man guilty of the murder on Tuesday. Furthermore, the court ordered that he must be permanently housed in a psychiatric facility due to a schizophrenic disorder.
This verdict fell short of the prosecutor’s request for 11 years in prison and permanent psychiatric commitment. However, the lawyer representing the victim’s widow, who acted as a secondary civil party, had demanded 13 years. Both the prosecution and the secondary civil party’s attorney argued that the accused was diminished in culpability, based on an expert report diagnosing him with a schizophrenic disorder and paranoid delusions.
The accused murdered the bailiff in November 2025 with at least 13 stab wounds when the official attempted to execute an eviction. It was revealed that the perpetrator knew about the impending eviction and intentionally ignored the bailiff’s correspondence. He had purchased the murder weapon shortly before the attack.
