SoVD Urges Early Review of Care Needs Ahead of Planned Pflegegrad Changes

The Sozialverband Deutschland (SoVD) is advising individuals with health impairments to check early whether they are eligible for a care degree. Michaela Engelmeier, the chairwoman of the SoVD, told the “Bild” that anyone who regularly needs assistance in daily life due to health limitations should examine whether they qualify for a care degree as soon as possible. She added that individuals who already have a care degree but now require increased support should also investigate opportunities for a level increase.

This advice comes in light of planned tightening of regulations regarding care degrees by the federal government. According to Engelmeier, the government plans to introduce stricter prerequisites for being classified into a care degree starting in 2027. She warned that under these new rules, individuals needing the same level of help might receive a lower degree or none at all, potentially resulting in the loss of crucial support services.

Engelmeier called on members of the Bundestag to prevent these planned deteriorations. She stressed that people requiring care and their relatives need reliable support, rather than new bureaucratic hurdles.
