Philipp Türmer, the leader of the Left Party’s (Jusos) faction, has called for the elimination of the contribution assessment limit within the statutory health insurance system, aligning himself with an initiative proposed by Health Minister Nina Warken (CDU). Speaking to the news magazine POLITICO on Tuesday, Türmer stated his support for raising the limit, adding, “If it were up to me, I would advocate for its complete abolition”. Furthermore, the Juso leader demanded that capital gains be incorporated more heavily into the system’s finances. He argued that capital returns should contribute to social state financing in the same way that labor income does. “Everything is being shifted onto employees, and that is unfair” Türmer commented. He concurrently advocated for structural reforms within the system, stating, “We stand for a citizen’s insurance”.
