According to data released by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), producer prices for agricultural products saw a dip of 13.7% in July 2026 compared to July 2025. This followed trends of decline in May and June 2026, when the year-over-year change was -13.9% in both months. However, the prices did rise by 0.5% when comparing July 2026 to June 2026.
Looking at commodity groups specifically, plant-based products fell by 4.4% year-on-year, while prices for animals and animal products dropped significantly by 18.6%. Moving from June to July, these two sectors showed contrasting movements: plant-based products became 4.6% more expensive, whereas prices for animals and animal products decreased by 1.9%.
The 4.4% decline in plant product prices was partly attributed to falling prices for potatoes, which were 45.4% lower in July 2026 than in July 2025. Potato prices were already down 35.9% in June 2026 and 53.5% in May 2026. Conversely, potato prices increased by 10.3% from the previous month, June 2026.
Regarding fruits, producer prices were 26.6% lower in July 2026 compared to one year prior. Notable price reductions included table apples, which fell by 42.0%, and strawberries, which dropped by 2.9%. For vegetables, prices rose by 10.4% over the year, driven mainly by significant increases in ice lettuce (+60.8%), cucumbers (+48.9%), and tomatoes (+10.6%). However, some items, including cauliflower and asparagus, saw price reductions of 16.8% and 2.0%, respectively.
In the feed sector, prices for fodder plants fell by 1.6% year-on-year. In contrast, grains rose by 3.0% compared to July 2025-marking the first price increase year-on-year since April 2025 (+8.9% compared to April 2024). Overall, prices for commercial crops were 6.2% higher in July 2026 than a year ago, with rapeseed increasing by 12.9%. Wine prices rose slightly by 0.7% in the same period.
The 18.6% price decrease for animal and animal products was significantly influenced by lower milk prices, which were 24.8% lower in July 2026 compared to July 2025. Milk prices did, however, rise by 0.9% from June 2026. Egg prices, by contrast, saw an increase of 9.2% year-on-year.
Prices for livestock were 16.6% lower in July 2026 than in July 2025. Major contributors to this decline included pork, which fell by 25.7%, and beef, which dropped by 13.4%. Poultry prices were 2.1% lower compared to a year ago, primarily due to a decrease in chicken prices of 4.8%. Meanwhile, prices for other poultry (ducks and turkeys) increased by 1.9%.
