Farmers’ Union Warns of Economic Crisis from Ending Tax-Free Minijobs in Pension Reform

Shortly before the Coalition Committee meeting scheduled for Wednesday, Joachim Rukwied, President of the German Farmers’ Association, issued a stern warning regarding the impending consequences of the planned abolition of contribution-free minijobs under the framework of the pension reform.

Speaking to the “Rheinische Post”, Rukwied stated that this move would be a severe blow that would exacerbate the existence crisis for numerous businesses. He emphatically rejected any limitations placed on marginal employment.

Looking at broader reform proposals, Rukwied acknowledged the necessity of reform while stressing that the economy and agriculture must be strengthened. He warned that proposals aimed at stabilizing health insurance contributions would place a considerable financial burden on agricultural entrepreneurs.

Furthermore, Rukwied explicitly rejected specific measures that would drive up labor costs. These measures include increasing the contribution assessment ceiling and restricting the right to contribution-free family insurance.
