FC Bayern Sells 5% Stake in Viessmann for €250M, Deepening Corporate Partnerships

FC Bayern is reportedly in the process of selling the remaining five percent of its shares in the heating technology conglomerate Viessmann. According to a Thursday report from the publication ‘tz,’ the proposed purchase price for this stake is stated to be 250 million euros.

Currently, Viessmann is designated a “Platinum Partner” of the record champion. If this share acquisition proceeds, Viessmann would transition to a main partner, aligning itself with current key sponsors like Telekom, as well as shareholders Adidas, Audi, and Allianz. The club currently holds 75% of the stock; Adidas, Audi, and Allianz each hold 8.33%. Selling this five percent would reduce FC Bayern’s ownership share to 70%.

The move comes amidst previous statements by former President Uli Hoeneß, who mentioned in 2025 a deal with the club members agreeing that no more than 30% of shares would be sold. He indicated that a five percent sale could proceed without requiring a member vote, while acquiring anything more would necessitate a two-thirds majority, which he stated would never be achieved.

It is important to note that the FC Bayern München e.V. is the foundational sporting club-it officially represents the members and oversees various sporting departments. The professional football operations, such as the Bundesliga, Champions League, player transfers, marketing, and licensing, are managed by the subsidiary, the FC Bayern München AG. While the AG is run by a dedicated board, the core club (the e.V.) retains considerable influence over the strategic direction of the professional team through its ownership stake.
