Fraport Assures Summer Aviation Fuel Supply Security Despite Hormuz Strait Concerns

The CEO of the airport operator Fraport AG, Stefan Schulte, asserts that the supply of aviation fuel across Europe is secure for the summer period. Schulte told the newspaper “Handelsblatt” that he anticipates Europe, including Germany, will have sufficient kerosene in the coming months, potentially extending through the end of the year if conditions remain favorable.

However, despite ongoing diplomatic efforts toward peace in Iran, the Strait of Hormuz-a route through which typically 25 to 30 percent of the kerosene needed in Europe is transported-remains largely blocked. Consequently, experts have issued warnings about potential fuel shortages as the summer season begins. This uncertainty has been reflected in public concern; a recent survey by the billing service SAP Concur revealed that nearly one in five people had either cancelled or rebooked a flight due to the debate, or their airline had already cancelled a flight.

Yet, Schulte does not anticipate a chaotic situation during this crucial summer period. The manager assured passengers that they should currently remain unconcerned about their bookings. Even if a shortage were to occur in any region of the world, he stated that travelers would be rebooked or fully refunded. In his view, the fear of being stranded is unfounded. He noted that countries such as India and China handled the situation very professionally by developing strategic reserves, and furthermore, any aircraft permitted to land in those areas would also be able to return.
