Fuel Prices Soar in Germany After Tank Discount Ends

Fuel prices in Germany have risen significantly since the start of July. According to a recent evaluation by ADAC (Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club), the average cost for one liter of Super E10 across the country currently stands at 2.024 Euros, representing an increase of 10.1 cents compared to the previous week. Diesel fuel has also become more expensive, rising by 9.4 cents to reach 1.953 Euros per liter. This spike follows the conclusion of the pump discount on July 1st, which led to the energy tax being raised by approximately 17 cents per liter; part of this increase was already priced in during the last days of June.

ADAC has criticized the current level of prices at gas stations, deeming them unnecessarily high. The price of Brent crude oil has recently settled at around 75 US dollars, comparable to the levels seen before the Iran conflict erupted in late February, when Super E10 cost only 1.789 Euros per liter. Diesel prices are similarly elevated, being approximately 20 cents more expensive, a trend influenced by Germany’s reliance on imports from the Middle East.
