Verden Shooting: Man Dies After Armed Attack; Suspect Detained

A shooting incident resulting in a death occurred in Verden, Lower Saxony, on Saturday. According to information released by the police on Sunday, the victim and a witness left a local establishment around 9:20 PM when they were attacked and shot at by an individual located nearby. The assailant subsequently fled the scene, and the companion, along with other witnesses, immediately notified the police.

The victim sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported via a rescue helicopter to a hospital, where he later passed away overnight. The public prosecutor’s office of Verden initiated an investigation that same evening. Crime technicians from the Verden/Osterholz Police Station conducted the evidence collection and search at the crime scene, while teams from the Central Criminal Service began initial interrogations.

These investigations led authorities to a 25-year-old man who is potentially linked to the crime. Based on the current findings, the suspect and the victim knew each other. The man was taken into custody. While the investigation into the exact course of the offense and its background continues, the police are appealing to any witnesses who may have information about the crime, suspicious vehicles, or persons to contact the Verden police.
