The Federal Association of Civil Servants (dbb) has warned a potentially incoming state government in Saxony-Anhalt against targeting civil servants within the state authorities. Speaking to the “Rheinische Post,” dbb Federal Chairman Volker Geyer stated that should a future administration attempt to illegally pressure civil servants out of their positions, they would face fierce resistance from the association and its specialized trade unions.
The dbb acknowledged the concerns of the state employees regarding the possible political shift. “We take the worries of our colleagues very seriously,” Geyer emphasized. He stressed that civil servants take an oath to the constitution and are solely committed to justice and the law. According to the dbb chief, German civil service law prevents dismissals motivated by politics for good reason, underscoring that the salaried civil service remains a critical foundation of the rule of law and the liberal democratic order.
This warning comes in light of prior comments made by AfD top candidate Ulrich Siegmund, who announced during the election campaign that if the AfD assumed power, they intended to reorganize numerous positions within the civil service structure, citing a “realistic figure” of between 150 and 200 roles.
