On Thursday, new temperature records for July were recorded across Germany. The German Weather Service (DWD) announced on Friday that, while several stations registered new July high temperatures, some stations recorded all-time highs, such as in Rheinfelden and Ohlsbach, where records had only been broken in June.
Temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius were observed at six locations. Specific measurements included 40.0 degrees in Rhenfelden, 40.1 degrees in Frankfurt (Main) Westend and Bad Neuheim, 40.2 degrees in Ohlsbach, and 40.4 degrees in Kitzingen. The highest recorded temperature was 40.5 degrees in Bernburg (Saale).
The information highlights that heatwaves are becoming stronger and more likely due to global warming. This effect will continue to intensify as long as additional greenhouse gases, such as those released from burning coal, oil, and gas, are introduced into the atmosphere.
