According to a recent poll conducted by the opinion research institute Forsa, 46 percent of German citizens expressed a preference for a Federal President who has experience in active politics. This finding was reported by RTL and ntv, who commissioned Forsa to survey 1,000 people on August 5th and 6th.
Of the respondents, 31 percent wished for a candidate who comes from outside the political profession, while 20 percent indicated that they did not have a preference for who held the highest office in the state.
Political affiliations showed notable variations in preference. Supporters of the SPD (70 percent) and the Union (CDU/CSU, 54 percent) are particularly inclined to favor an experienced politician. Conversely, the respondents from the Left Party (43 percent) and the AfD (40 percent) most often preferred a candidate who does not come from politics.
