German Supplement Production Hits Record High for Goods and Companies

The production of food supplements in Germany is on a significant upward trend, as reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). In 2025, the quantity produced reached approximately 241,000 tonnes, setting a new record. This figure represents a 1.6 percent increase compared to the previous year’s volume of about 237,000 tonnes, and marks a substantial jump of 48.4 percent compared to 2019, when production stood at 162,000 tonnes.

The financial value of these supplements has also risen sharply. In 2025, the production value climbed to approximately 2.08 billion Euros, up from 1.85 billion Euros the year before-a 12.6 percent increase. Compared to 2019, the value of manufactured food supplements has more than doubled, reporting a rise of 137.6 percent.

Furthermore, the industry itself is expanding, with the number of companies producing food supplements reaching a new peak of 72 in 2025. This contrasts with 64 companies the previous year, and 52 in 2019. These supplements encompass a variety of products, including protein drinks, calcium and magnesium effervescent tablets, horsetail, zinc-yeast capsules, and St. John’s Wort dragees. It is worth noting that these specific types of products have been tracked separately in production statistics since 2019.
