According to preliminary data released by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on Thursday, German accommodations recorded 39.5 million overnight stays by both domestic and international guests in April 2026. This figure represents a decrease of 3.1 percent compared to April 2025.
In April 2026, the number of overnight stays by domestic guests dropped by 3.9 percent year-over-year, reaching 32.9 million. Conversely, overnight stays from international guests saw a slight increase of 0.6 percent, totaling 6.6 million.
Looking at the longer period, accommodations managed a total of 126.1 million overnight stays between January and April 2026. This number was 0.6 percent higher than the corresponding period in 2025. However, it fell 0.9 percent short of the record of 127.2 million overnight stays recorded during this time in 2019.
For the same January-to-April period, domestic overnight stays grew by 0.6 percent compared to the previous year, reaching 104.8 million. Meanwhile, stays by foreign guests increased by 0.6 percent, amounting to 21.3 million, according to the Federal Office.
