Dirk Wiese, the first parliamentary director of the SPD Bundestag group, told the “Rheinische Post” that the SPD anticipates that Friedrich Merz (CDU) will soon announce the name of his preferred female candidate for the head of state position. Wiese expressed excitement about Merz’s upcoming proposal.
For months, Wiese has been campaigning for a woman to occupy the highest state office, asserting that it is long overdue. The SPD politician stated he is pleased that Merz has now acknowledged the necessity of this requirement.
This follows a statement Merz made at a CDU regional chairmen meeting in Berlin, where he announced: “I will propose a joint candidate for the party, a candidate representing the political center. I am set on the requirement that it must be a woman.”
