Eugen Polanski is reportedly no longer the head coach of Borussia Mönchengladbach. The decision was finalized on Sunday, according to overlapping reports from the “Rheinische Post” and the broadcaster Sky.
While Sky stated that the decision to dismiss Polanski was made by the club and announced to him on Sunday morning, the “Rheinische Post” reported that Polanski himself submitted his resignation to the team and sporting director Rouven Schröder on Sunday morning. Both parties were reportedly meeting late Saturday night before the change took place.
The club’s poor run of form was a key factor, as the Gladbach players had endured a catastrophic start to the season, losing their first three matches. Their most recent defeat was a 0-5 loss to SC Freiburg on Saturday.
As an immediate measure, co-coach Jan-Moritz Lichte is set to temporarily take over and manage the team for the upcoming match against Mainz. A permanent successor is expected to be determined during the national team break.
