The Green Party is demanding an explanation from Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) regarding the confusion surrounding the draft law for reforming civil servant salaries. Marcel Emmerich, an expert on interior affairs for the Greens, told “Spiegel” that the “Dobrindt salary debacle requires a complete clarification”. He pointed out that the original draft law from the Federal Ministry of the Interior included a generous pay raise even for top civil servants, a proposal from which Dobrindt has since distanced himself. Emmerich told the minister that he must answer whether he had knowingly proceeded with these increases through his own directives and is now attempting to downplay the issue. According to the Green Member of Parliament, it could have been an attempt to pass the changes unnoticed. Emmerich stated that the interior minister needs to immediately release the new pay scale and provide an understandable explanation for it, concluding that “complete transparency is needed to restore trust”.
