The Greens praise the Federal Government’s draft law concerning Building Type E, while simultaneously calling for additional measures to accelerate construction.
Kassem Taher Saleh, the Greens’ spokesperson for construction and housing policy, told the “Rheinische Post” that the finalization of the Building Type E draft law is a significant and positive signal for making building processes simpler and more cost-effective.
However, Saleh cautioned that while Building Type E offers valuable scope for establishing simple standards, it does not replace the need for action against the true drivers of the construction cost crisis, such as speculative land prices. Consequently, the Greens are demanding a more holistic set of approaches.
The Green politician warned that it will take some time for these civil law regulations to be fully integrated into standard construction practice and to take full effect. He stressed that it is crucial that any deviation from recognized technical rules is legally sound, and that these new simplifications also provide benefits to the existing building stock.
