Following the elections in Berlin and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, SPD leader and Vice Chancellor Lars Klingbeil called for “humility.” Speaking to ARD, he stated that the federal government must examine why there is “such great uncertainty” in the country, adding, “We must take this result with humility.” Klingbeil welcomed this statement from Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) on election night, noting that Merz had clearly highlighted the challenges facing the country while confirming the government would stick to its reform plans.
According to the latest estimates from ARD and ZDF, the SPD averages 35.8 percent, placing them slightly behind the AfD, which received 37.6 percent. The Left followed with a significant margin at 7.0 percent, ahead of the Greens, with 5.5 percent. The CDU garnered 5.3 percent, while the BSW scored 4.9 percent; both parties still face considerable challenges. The FDP reached only 1.1 percent, and the Other parties collectively achieved 3.0 percent.
In Berlin, the Left leads with 25.2 percent. This is followed by the CDU at 20 percent, the Greens at 15.2 percent, the AfD at 14.8 percent, the SPD at 12.0 percent, and the BSW at 5.0 percent. The remaining parties, including the FDP, topped out at 7.9 percent.
