Sören Pellmann, the leader of the Left party’s faction, has called on the CDU/Union to cooperate with his party. Speaking to the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”, he stated that “The Left makes it very clear: a right-extremist party must not enter a government-not in Saxony-Anhalt, nor elsewhere. I assume the CDU sees it that way as well.”
Pellmann urged the CDU/Union to approach the Left to make this cooperation possible and to define the scope of political partnership. He placed the responsibility squarely on the CDU’s shoulders, noting that cooperation in state parliaments is already common practice. He emphasized that the Left is ready to assist with concrete improvements in people’s daily lives at any time.
This appeal follows earlier public statements, including one from Left party leader Luigi Pantisano in a ZDF summer interview, where he showed openness to collaboration. Furthermore, Bodo Ramelow, Deputy President of the Bundestag and former Minister-President of Thuringia, has also supported the idea of working together.
