Ines Schwerdtner, the leader of Linke, has sharply criticized the proposed reforms by the federal government. Speaking to the “Rheinische Post” (Thursday edition), Schwerdtner stated that if the government claims it intends to push its so-called reform agenda through despite resistance, it should expect significant opposition.
The party chair emphasized that the planned reduction in social benefits will not simply be passed quietly. According to her, hidden behind the positive term “reforms” are primarily deteriorations for citizens, including longer working hours, reduced social security, cuts to pensions and care services, and increased pressure on employees. She further contended that while these measures affect the average citizen, large fortunes and corporations will be shielded from the changes.
This comes as politicians from the governing coalition previously maintained that their reform plans would be implemented by the end of the year, even against resistance. Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil (SPD) had previously stated on Tuesday evening during a ZDF broadcast that they needed to update social security systems, noting that pension reform was part of this process.
