In response to the low water levels currently affecting German rivers, the Autobahn GmbH is rescheduling planned construction work. According to a spokesperson for the “Rheinische Post,” the company is making every effort to mitigate the impact of the water crisis on traffic as much as possible.
Specifically, operations that involve additional constraints for traffic, whether due to construction or otherwise, will be reduced to the strictly necessary minimum. The spokesman further explained that measures will be postponed, timed differently, or newly coordinated, where it is feasible and does not compromise traffic safety or the condition of the infrastructure. The overarching goal is to prevent further disruption and ensure the operational capacity of the autobahn network is maximized given the current circumstances.
This change follows the announcement made by Federal Transport Minister Steffen Bilger (CDU), who stated that construction sites that are currently not mandatory should be paused because of the low river levels.
