Mixed US Markets and Sharp Oil Price Drop Shape Global Financial Outlook

The US stock markets showed mixed performance on Friday. In New York, the Dow closed at 51,683 points, registering a decline of 0.2 percent compared to the previous trading day. Although the Dow dipped, the broader S&P 500 index was up 0.2 percent at roughly 7,651 points. Similarly, the technology-focused Nasdaq 100 calculated at that time showed a gain of 0.7 percent, reaching about 29,644 points.

On a corporate front, Warren Buffett stepped down as Chairman of the Board of Berkshire Hathaway on Friday, moving to the position of Chairman Emeritus. Initially, the company’s stock reacted minimally to the announcement.

Regarding currency exchange, the European common currency strengthened slightly on Friday evening. The euro cost 1.1488 US dollars, while the dollar was priced at 0.8705 euros.

The price of gold rose, with a fine ounce trading at 4,378 US dollars in the evening, marking a gain of 0.9 percent. This translates to a price of 122.54 euros per gram. Conversely, the price of oil dropped significantly. By 10:00 PM German time on Friday, a barrel of Brent North Sea crude cost $103.30, which was 150 cents or 1.4 percent lower than the previous closing price.
