Norway Mourns King Harald V’s Passing; Haakon Takes the Royal Throne

Norwegian King Harald V has passed away. The Norwegian Royal Family announced that the monarch “peacefully fell asleep” at 6:35 AM on Friday at the University Hospital Oslo (Rikshospitalet). With his passing, his son, Haakon, will be the new King of Norway.

The King had been admitted to Rikshospitalet in Oslo last week. According to the palace, his condition had deteriorated over the weekend. On Thursday morning, it was reported that the King’s health had become “extremely serious.”
