Oil Prices Dip in Germany After Tapering Conflict Fears Amid Subsidy Hopes

A week after the fighting subsided in the Iran war, fuel prices in Germany saw a noticeable decrease for the first time since the conflict began. According to a spokesperson for the ADAC who spoke to the dts news agency on Wednesday, the average price for a liter of diesel nationwide was 2.286 euros on Tuesday. This represents a drop of 16.1 cents compared to the previous week. The price for Super E10 fell by 8.1 cents to an average of 2.107 euros per liter, placing both categories roughly at the price level seen two weeks prior, though still far from the pre-crisis rates. Attention is focused on how the decisions made by the coalition committee over the weekend will affect prices. The CDU and SPD are planning an “immediate energy program” which includes provisions to reduce the energy tax on diesel and gasoline by approximately 17 cents gross per liter for two months. If the legislative process proceeds as planned, this change could become effective on May 1st.
