Following the AfD’s electoral success in Saxony-Anhalt, the German Social Association (SoVD) has issued a demand for the federal government to critically review its planned reforms. According to Michaela Engelmeier, the SoVD’s head, the response to consumer dissatisfaction and fears of decline must not be to undermine social security. Engelmeier cautioned that the government must thoroughly examine its proposed cuts to social benefits. She noted that the election results in Saxony-Anhalt are a cause for significant concern for the association. SoVD is dedicated to fostering a society where everyone can participate equally. She stated that any future state government will be judged on whether it strengthens social security and provides support and protection from exclusion for people with disabilities, the elderly, and those affected by poverty.
