Luigi Pantisano, the new co-leader of The Left party, expressed regret that the CDU has not accepted his apology concerning the accusation of fascism. Speaking to ARD for what they called the “Interview of the Week,” Pantisano conceded that he had made a mistake. However, he also reiterated his core criticism: he remains concerned about the shift toward the right within the CDU.
“The Union must deal with this fundamental question, and because of this, I will not withdraw my criticism. The statement was wrong; equating the CDU and the AfD is incorrect. I have apologized for that. But the core criticism-the CDU cannot try to distract from that. We will not let them get away with that,” Pantisano stated.
Looking ahead, he plans to use the next two years to genuinely secure his party’s trust and aim for a better result than 53% in the next election.
