In the Group D match of the Football World Cup, Paraguay secured a narrow 1-0 victory against Turkey in the second matchday, thus eliminating the Turks from the tournament.
The decisive goal was scored by Matias Galarza in the second minute. Following a defensive error by the Turkish side, Isidro Pitta exploited the chance to bring Julio Enciso onto the field. Enciso then delivered a pass to Galarza, who struck the ball from around 28 meters. It was an unstoppable shot for Turkish goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir, finding the bottom right corner.
During the remainder of the first half, Paraguay allowed the Turkish team possession of the ball, but despite this, they struggled to create dangerous attacking opportunities. Mert Müldür produced the best threat for Turkey, but his header only hit the post and the crossbar. The match intensified, leading to a red card for Paraguay’s Miguel Almiron, who was subsequently cautioned for arguing with his hand covering his mouth.
In the second half, Turkey pushed for an equalizer while having a numerical advantage, yet they could not overcome the well-organized defense of the South Americans. Despite numerous changes and obvious offensive efforts, the Turkish attackers remained unfortunate in front of goal. Paraguay skillfully defended their lead, conceding few clear chances. Ultimately, Galarza’s early goal proved sufficient to secure the win for Paraguay and boost their chances of advancing. Consequently, Turkey is already confirmed as the last-placed team in the group due to the head-to-head comparison.
