Amid the large influx of migrants to the Spanish enclave of Ceuta, and the resulting crisis meeting of EU Interior Ministers, the Police Union (GdP) is calling for concrete measures from Germany. Andreas Roßkopf, the GdP’s head for the Federal Police, told the “Rheinische Post” that EU member states have failed to uphold their agreements, adding, “Our colleagues at the German internal borders are the ones who have to deal with the fallout.”
Since a large portion of unauthorized entries into the EU still seek to enter Germany, Roßkopf stressed that “it is more important than ever to modernize the Federal Police into a flexible, modern border force.”
He demanded rapid technological upgrades, including advanced tracking vehicles, surveillance drones, AI-supported camera systems, license plate recognition devices, and modularly constructed checkpoints. The GdP chief criticized the authorities for delaying necessary investments for too long. Concurrently, he insisted that Germany must reduce incentives for migration and increase the deportations of individuals who lack proper residence status.
