Preliminary Autopsy Rules Out Foul Play in Hubert Aiwanger’s Sudden Death Investigation

The Berlin Public Prosecutor’s Office announced on Thursday that the preliminary autopsy results of Deputy Bavarian Prime Minister Hubert Aiwanger (Free Voters), who passed away on Wednesday, showed no signs of foul play. Authorities stated that further forensic medical examinations are still required as part of the death investigation process, and the inquiry remains ongoing.

Aiwanger, 55, was found dead in a Berlin hotel on Wednesday. Prior to his death, he had declined to attend a celebration marking the opening of his party’s capital office, stating that he was feeling unwell.

Aiwanger has been the chairman of the Free Voters in Bavaria since 2006. He led the party into the Bavarian State Parliament in 2008, securing a mandate in the Lower Bavaria constituency. Between 2008 and 2018, he served as the group chairman in the State Parliament. He was elected as the federal chairman in 2010. Since 2018, he has served as the deputy Bavarian Prime Minister and the State Minister of Economic Affairs.
