The SPD chapter in Rhineland-Palatinate has confirmed that Alexander Schweitzer, the party’s former Minister-President, will take on the role of Federal Minister of Labour. Vice-State Chairmen Doris Ahnen and Sven Teuber announced that Schweitzer accepted this post following the wishes of Federal Chairman Lars Klingbeil.
The party described Schweitzer as an “ardent labour and social policy advocate.” Previously, while serving in Rhineland-Palatinate, he held the position of Minister for Labour and Social Affairs, where he also chaired the Conference of Labour and Social Ministers. Even during his time as Minister-President, these topics were always central to his focus.
Ahnen and Teuber stressed that this new role will not be easy, given the substantial reforms that are yet to come. Nevertheless, they expressed strong confidence that Schweitzer will successfully advance the country in this capacity.
