Ricarda Lang keeps Green top candidacy alive, delivers sharp criticism of Union’s leadership prospects

Former Green Party leader Ricarda Lang has stated that she has not ruled out running as a top candidate for her party in the next federal election. When approached by “Spiegel’s” “Spitzengespräch,” she responded to question regarding her candidacy by saying, “I don’t know that yet.” Lang also criticized premature internal partisan debates, suggesting that constant speculation-two or three years before a campaign-about who will run, what offices they seek, or which parties they might coalition with is indicative of a deeper trust problem among established parties. She argued that perhaps they should focus on the present instead. On the topic of the Union, however, Lang was certain, stating, “I believe we all know that Friedrich Merz will not be the next chancellor candidate for the Union.”
