CDU parliamentary deputy Norbert Röttgen has publicly supported providing Ukraine with Taurus cruise missiles drawn from Federal Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) stockpiles. Speaking on the “Politico” podcast “Berlin Playbook” Röttgen stated that he considers supplying the Taurus to be “right, politically right”.
The CDU foreign policy expert acknowledged that, despite the ongoing debate, there has “never been a majority” for the delivery of Taurus missiles, a situation that has not changed. However, he confirmed that his personal opinion remains firm.
Röttgen added that Ukraine now possesses comparable weaponry, allowing it to strike Russian targets up to 1,000 kilometers from its border.
Despite the war needs, Röttgen argued that Germany should continue to assist Ukraine through financial aid and loans. He noted that Ukraine’s capacity to produce armaments is now extremely large; what the country truly lacks is money. He stressed that Ukraine requires “a little more” than the €90 billion offered by the European Union in the form of a credit line.
