Russian Putin Critic Shot Dead in Poland Amid Police Investigation

The Polish police are currently investigating the shooting death of Russian artist Semyon Skrepetsky, who was a sharp critic of President Vladimir Putin. According to the state prosecutor’s office, the 44-year-old was killed on Monday morning in the town of Biala Podlaska, located approximately 40 kilometers from the border with Belarus. The man was shot on a parking lot about 600 meters from the Belarusian consulate.

Prosecutors state that an unidentified man initially fired three shots from a handgun at the victim. After Skrepetsky fell to the ground, the attacker approached him and fired two more shots at close range. Examination of the body revealed five entry and two exit wounds to the head and chest.

The artist was known for his public appearances, where he mocked Putin and strongly criticized Moscow’s war against Ukraine. He had lived in the Polish city for several years. In connection with the case, police detained two men from Belarus, aged 33 and 37, near the scene of the crime. Their involvement in the incident is currently under investigation.
