According to the state election head, voter turnout in the Saxony-Anhalt state election was significantly higher at noon compared to five years ago. At midday, the turnout reached 34.72 percent, a notable increase from the 22.4 percent recorded at the same time in 2021.
The elections began promptly at 8 o’clock on Sunday across the approximately 2,130 polling stations. Throughout the morning, the election process was reported by the state election head to have proceeded smoothly, without any instances of disproportionate waiting times.
It is worth noting that the voter participation rate was much higher during the 2016 election, finishing at 61.1 percent. Given the intensity of the campaign surrounding the potential for an AfD-led government, a higher turnout than the currently observed figure is deemed likely for this year.
