Following the coalition’s agreement on a sugar tax, Schleswig-Holstein is pressing for the funds generated to be directed specifically into the healthcare system. A spokesperson for Minister-President Daniel Günther (CDU) told the Rheinische Post that the usage of these revenues is critically important. They emphasized that the money should not be used for budget consolidation, but must exclusively benefit the health sector, particularly in the area of prevention. The spokesperson added that this aligns with the clear policy stance in Schleswig-Holstein, saying their commitment to this outcome was made from the very beginning. The state government welcomes the agreement on the sugar tax, viewing it as a genuine incentive for manufacturers to reduce the sugar content in their products.
