The German Weather Service (DWD) has issued warnings about localized severe thunderstorms expected across parts of Southern and Northern Germany. The DWD reported late Friday that the affected states include parts of Niedersachsen, Baden-Württemberg, and Bayern.
These storms could lead to a number of dangers, including downed trees, falling roof tiles, and localized flooding affecting basements and streets. Hail damage to buildings, vehicles, and agricultural crops is also possible.
The meteorological reason for the severe weather is a front system currently positioned steadily across central Germany, separating warmer air masses in the southeast from cooler air masses in the north. This configuration is causing the development of powerful, sometimes severe localized thunderstorms.
The current warnings are in effect until Saturday night, though the DWD noted that there is a possibility that the warnings could be extended or expanded to cover further regions.
