Following elections in Berlin and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the SPD intends to revisit planned reforms with the Union coalition partners at the federal level.
On Monday, at the Willy-Brandt-Haus in Berlin, SPD leader Bärbel Bas stated that “the correct conclusions must be drawn from the election results.” While emphasizing that her party has assumed responsibility in the federal government and is committed to maintaining its position within the ruling coalition, Bas stressed the need for a thorough analysis of public sentiment regarding the upcoming changes.
Bas noted that the results indicate that the public is not satisfied with the proposed reforms. Consequently, she argued that the SPD must search for solutions together with its coalition partner. She confirmed that moving forward without consensus is not acceptable, a stance she previously voiced regarding Saxony-Anhalt, and reiterated the necessity for the coalition to find common ground.
