Serpil Midyatli, the Deputy Federal Chairwoman of the SPD, criticized Torsten Albig’s recent proposal regarding the possibility of minority governments, stating to the “Tagesspiegel” that Albig was “absolutely off track”. Midyatli firmly labeled the Alternative for Germany (AfD) as both anti-democratic and inhumanly hateful. She asserted that as a social democrat, she would consistently oppose the AfD, leading her to strongly advocate for a review of the AfD’s constitutionality, demanding an immediate ban on the party. This critique came as a response to Albig, the former Prime Minister of Schleswig-Holstein, who had previously suggested to the SPD that they should also consider forming minority governments, even those that the AfD tacitly accepted.
