Adis Ahmetovic, the foreign policy spokesperson for the Social Democrats (SPD) faction, has expressed concern that the United States and Israel may conduct a new large-scale military operation against Iran following the US interim elections. Speaking to the broadcasters RTL and ntv, Ahmetovic noted that given the current political situations of Netanyahu and Trump, the probability is very high that “something that does not help us” could occur in the coming days and weeks. When pressed whether he anticipated such an attack, he stated, “I would not categorically rule it out.”
He emphasized that Germany, Europe, and the Arab nations must exert diplomatic pressure on Israel and the United States to prevent the war from reigniting, adding that “No one benefits from this war.”
The SPD politician further stated that the conflict against Iran is wrong, “is and remains illegal under international law.” Ahmetovic clarified that this stance is not motivated by sympathy for the Iranian government. Instead, he stressed that the war has negative consequences for Iran, the Middle East, and Europe, making it unsustainable in the interest of Western nations.
